Chosen Beneficiary for 2008-09

The Royal British Legion was founded in 1921 as a voice for the ex-Service community and over 380,000 members continue to ensure that this voice does not go unheard.

Although the needs of serving and ex-serving personnel have changed over the years, they are still there to safeguard their welfare, interests and memory.  British service people are in action around the world every day of the year.  They know that if they need their support - now or in the future - the Legion is always on active duty for them.

We wear a yellow ribbon ...

This poem was written by a Navy Girlfriend, Cindy Tunnicliffe, especially for the Yellow Ribbon Foundation's "wear a yellow ribbon for the Troops campaign" back in March 2003.   Amazing to think it was 5 years ago, and we are still going strong!

We wear a yellow ribbon
We wear it near our heart
We wear it for our troops
While we are far apart.

It's a symbol of our Love
It's a symbol of our Pride
And we'll wear a Yellow Ribbon
Until they're back by our side.

So for all of our Armed Forces
Lets Us, that's Me and You
Wear a Yellow Ribbon
For our heroes, Brave & True.

 Sky Documentary - Soldier's Wife
Current Headlines

Participants Required : Lorraine Kelly’s DNA Stories
Current Headlines

SMG Productions are looking for people to take part in a programme called DNA Stories, which helps trace long-lost relatives through DNA testing. Due to air in October on Sky Real Lives, it is presented by Lorraine Kelly and this is the 2nd series of the programme.

Lorraine Kelly’s DNA Stories lifts the science of DNA testing out of the realms of the detective series and places it into real life scenarios.  Within each hour-long programme Lorraine explores two individual stories, each involving people who desperately need a DNA test to answer the big questions that have long dominated their lives.

Recruitment & Retention in the Armed Forces - New Website
MoD News

DEFENCE COMMITTEE LAUNCHES COUNTRY-WIDE WEB FORUM ON RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION IN THE SERVICES

The Armed Forces Community is being invited to offer views direct to Parliament on the subject of military recruitment and retention in a new web-forum opened this week by the House of Commons Defence Select Committee.

The Committee has recently launched a new inquiry into the issues that affect recruitment and retention in the Armed Forces and is inviting key MoD officials and commentators to give evidence. However the Committee is also taking advantage of a relatively new web-based system that allows Members of Parliament to hear views from the public using simple on-line web-consultations.

The forum will run from 2 April 2008 until 21 May 2008.
