Chosen Beneficiary for 2009 - 2010

The Forces Children's Trust was founded in 2004 by Mr. Denny Wise who, with his extensive show-business background and contacts, has spent many years giving so much time to fund-raising for so many good causes and charities.

Following the many heart-breaking stories that have emerged from the losses in Afghanistan and Iraq, Denny was concerned that the subsequent needs of the affected children, were not being fully addressed. He was particularly moved by the number of children who were left without a parent and decided that a charity solely dedicated to helping the individual needs and problems of the children would help fill a niche in the charitable field of family care.

We wear a yellow ribbon ...

This poem was written by a Navy Girlfriend, Cindy Tunnicliffe, especially for the Yellow Ribbon Foundation's "wear a yellow ribbon for the Troops campaign" back in March 2003.   Amazing to think it was 5 years ago, and we are still going strong!

We wear a yellow ribbon
We wear it near our heart
We wear it for our troops
While we are far apart.

It's a symbol of our Love
It's a symbol of our Pride
And we'll wear a Yellow Ribbon
Until they're back by our side.

So for all of our Armed Forces
Lets Us, that's Me and You
Wear a Yellow Ribbon
For our heroes, Brave & True.

4 Peaks Challenge 2009 for the Wooden Spoon Charity
Yellow Ribbon AnnouncementsIt is the time of year again when 4 of us Navy lads take to the hills and attempt those 4 peaks again (Ben Nevis, Helvellyn, Snowdon and Carantouhill) all in aid of the Wooden Spoon Charity for disabled and disadvantaged children. I know times is 'ard but we are struggling to match the previous two years totals of over £30,000 so ALL help greatly appreciated. we have a very fit team this year and have a chance of the overall trophy.
You can donate as little as £2 and as much as a million and see what we are doing here:

In antipation - a big THANK YOU from the team and Wooden Spoon.

Gurkhas win right to settle in UK
Current Headlines

All Gurkha veterans who retired before 1997 with at least four years' service will be allowed to settle in the UK, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has said.   Ms Smith told MPs she was "proud to offer this country's welcome to all who have served in the brigade of Gurkhas".

It comes after a high-profile campaign by Joanna Lumley and other supporters of Gurkha rights - and an embarrassing Commons defeat for the government.  Some 36,000 Gurkhas who left before 1997 had been denied UK residency. Ms Lumley, the actress who has been the public face of the campaign on behalf of the Gurkhas, said: "This is the welcome we have always longed to give."

Loch Ness 10k for Combat Stress
Current Headlines

Victoria McMillan, 21 years of age, a young mum and a law student from Aberdeen is doing the Loch Ness 10K run on the 4th October 2009. She is raising funds for Combat Stress, a charity close to her and many hearts.

Combat Stress has never been busier – there has been a 66% increase in the number of new Veterans seeking their help over the last four years. The demand on their services is unlikely to decrease over the short to medium term and the pressure on their very modest resources is growing.
